Course Description

VMware Horizon 8: Deploy and Manage develops hands-on understanding of Horizon architecture, connection servers, agents, clients, Connection Server installation, initial configuration, licenses. Learners move from requirements and dependencies to implementation, validation, troubleshooting, and supportable VMware operations.

Later lessons examine Instant clones, golden images, desktop pools, farms, Monitoring, Help Desk Tool, session management. Participants use Horizon deployment architecture and dependency checklist, broker and UAG deployment record with login-path test, desktop-pool provisioning evidence and entitlement matrix, Horizon operations runbook and user-experience baseline to distinguish configuration, access, network, storage, performance, and lifecycle issues rather than treating them as one generic failure.

After the four lessons, learners can help establish a deployable Horizon 8 environment with secure access, managed desktop pools, reliable images, application delivery, user profiles, monitoring, and repeatable day-two administration. They also document follow-up actions for performance, security, lifecycle, support, and adoption.

What You Will Learn

• Explain how Horizon architecture, connection servers, and agents establish the technical foundation and influence later design decisions.
• Configure clients, protocols, unified access gateways, load balancing, Active Directory, DNS, certificates, and design prerequisites, then confirm readiness through Horizon deployment architecture and dependency checklist instead of relying on completion messages alone.
• Execute a controlled workflow covering Connection Server installation, initial configuration, and licenses, preserving prerequisites, changes, and resulting service behavior.
• Read broker and UAG deployment record with login-path test to isolate external authentication succeeding while the display protocol path remains blocked, separate symptoms from causes, and choose a correction that can be safely retested.
• Integrate Instant clones, golden images, and desktop pools with access, capacity, resilience, and downstream operational expectations.
• Challenge farms, RDS hosts, applications, entitlements, profiles, DEM concepts, App Volumes concepts, and lifecycle using normal and boundary cases, then defend the outcome with desktop-pool provisioning evidence and entitlement matrix.
• Investigate login storms exhausting profile storage before broker health alarms activate by reviewing Monitoring, Help Desk Tool, and session management before applying a reversible fix.
• Prepare Horizon operations runbook and user-experience baseline that demonstrates policies, performance, backups, upgrades, troubleshooting, security, capacity, and operational handover and supports handover, monitoring, governance, and the next improvement decision.
