Course Description
VMware Data Center Virtualization: Core Technical Skills develops hands-on understanding of Virtualization principles, hypervisors, ESXi, vCenter, Virtual switches, port groups, VLANs. Learners move from requirements and dependencies to implementation, validation, troubleshooting, and supportable VMware operations.
Later lessons examine Virtual machines, guest operating systems, VMware Tools, hardware versions, HA and DRS concepts, monitoring, alarms. Participants use virtualization architecture map and component-identification assessment, network-storage mapping and connectivity validation, virtual-machine provisioning checklist and snapshot-impact review, core operations checklist and technical-skills action plan to distinguish configuration, access, network, storage, performance, and lifecycle issues rather than treating them as one generic failure.
After the four lessons, learners can help establish a strong technical foundation in VMware data-center virtualization, including compute, networking, storage, virtual machines, availability, lifecycle, monitoring, security, and support concepts. They also document follow-up actions for performance, security, lifecycle, support, and adoption.
What You Will Learn
- Explain how Virtualization principles, hypervisors, and ESXi establish the technical foundation and influence later design decisions.
- Configure vCenter, data-center components, hardware, resource abstraction, clusters, inventory, terminology, and administrative roles, then confirm readiness through virtualization architecture map and component-identification assessment instead of relying on completion messages alone.
- Execute a controlled workflow covering Virtual switches, port groups, and VLANs, preserving prerequisites, changes, and resulting service behavior.
- Read network-storage mapping and connectivity validation to isolate a virtual machine connecting to a port group on the wrong VLAN, separate symptoms from causes, and choose a correction that can be safely retested.
- Integrate Virtual machines, guest operating systems, and VMware Tools with access, capacity, resilience, and downstream operational expectations.
- Challenge hardware versions, templates, clones, snapshots, content libraries, migration, resource controls, and lifecycle using normal and boundary cases, then defend the outcome with virtual-machine provisioning checklist and snapshot-impact review.
- Investigate an alert being acknowledged without investigating the underlying capacity trend by reviewing HA and DRS concepts, monitoring, and alarms before applying a reversible fix.
- Prepare core operations checklist and technical-skills action plan that demonstrates performance, permissions, security, patching, backup, disaster recovery, cloud integration, troubleshooting, and career readiness and supports handover, monitoring, governance, and the next improvement decision.
SkillDynamo Training Approach
Training uses instructor walkthroughs, hands-on implementation, role-based exercises, boundary testing, troubleshooting drills, review checkpoints, and structured handover. Learners practise explaining why a result is acceptable rather than merely showing that a task completed.
