Course Description
VMware NSX: Install, Configure, Manage [V4.0] provides a structured path through NSX architecture, managers, control plane, data plane, Segments, VLAN and overlay networking, gateways. Each module links technical decisions to workload outcomes, failure scenarios, observability, recovery, and controlled change.
The course then moves into Groups, tags, distributed firewall, gateway firewall, Load-balancing concepts, VPN overview, high availability. Learners inspect NSX transport design and host-preparation validation, logical network build and route-verification matrix, micro-segmentation policy test and firewall-hit evidence, NSX operations dashboard and recovery runbook to confirm results, explain exceptions, and leave a reproducible decision trail.
The course outcome is the ability to support a functional NSX 4.0 environment with correctly prepared transport infrastructure, logical switching and routing, distributed security, resilient edge services, and monitored operations. Learners finish with a prioritized action plan covering operations, hardening, capacity, resilience, and service improvement.
What You Will Learn
- Explain how NSX architecture, managers, and control plane establish the technical foundation and influence later design decisions.
- Configure data plane, transport zones, host preparation, transport nodes, uplink profiles, IP pools, and tunnel endpoints, then confirm readiness through NSX transport design and host-preparation validation instead of relying on completion messages alone.
- Execute a controlled workflow covering Segments, VLAN and overlay networking, and gateways, preserving prerequisites, changes, and resulting service behavior.
- Read logical network build and route-verification matrix to isolate a tier-1 route not reaching the physical network because advertisement is disabled, separate symptoms from causes, and choose a correction that can be safely retested.
- Integrate Groups, tags, and distributed firewall with access, capacity, resilience, and downstream operational expectations.
- Challenge gateway firewall, security policies, identity-aware controls, service insertion concepts, logging, and rule analysis using normal and boundary cases, then defend the outcome with micro-segmentation policy test and firewall-hit evidence.
- Investigate an edge failover changing the forwarding path without restoring a required service route by reviewing Load-balancing concepts, VPN overview, and high availability before applying a reversible fix.
- Prepare NSX operations dashboard and recovery runbook that demonstrates backups, upgrades, monitoring, alarms, traceflow, packet capture, troubleshooting, and handover and supports handover, monitoring, governance, and the next improvement decision.
SkillDynamo Training Approach
The learning method blends demonstrations, controlled exercises, realistic failures, access and data checks, diagnostic reasoning, acceptance review, and production-readiness planning. Outputs are documented so another practitioner can repeat the test and understand the decision trail.
