Course Description
Migrating to VMware Cloud Foundation [V5.0] develops practical capability for a controlled migration into VMware Cloud Foundation 5.0 that aligns target workload domains, HCX services, network continuity, cutover waves, rollback options, and post-migration operational standards. The learning path begins with vcf 5.0 target architecture, assessment, and migration-wave planning and progresses through hcx preparation, site pairing, profiles, service mesh, and validation, keeping architecture, access, dependencies, and measurable acceptance connected.
Applied work is situated in an established vSphere estate with inconsistent clusters, application dependencies, limited downtime, and a target VCF platform governed through standardized domains. Participants then address migration execution, mobility groups, cutover, and rollback and post-migration optimization, cleanup, security, and handover, using source-to-target assessment and VCF migration-wave plan, HCX-to-VCF readiness record and service-mesh acceptance test, VCF cutover runbook and migration-wave validation report, and post-migration acceptance pack and VCF operations handover to compare intended design with observed behavior.
By completion, learners can implement, validate, troubleshoot, and hand over the course workflows with defensible evidence. The final operating record identifies unresolved risks, monitoring requirements, recovery actions, owners, and the next controlled improvement.
What You Will Learn
- Translate VCF 5.0 architecture, management and workload domains, source-estate inventory into a workable architecture whose constraints and success measures are unambiguous.
- Prove capacity and placement, network continuity, migration constraints, wave grouping, readiness and risk register by collecting source-to-target assessment and VCF migration-wave plan rather than treating task completion as acceptance.
- Implement HCX deployment with VCF, site pairing, compute profiles through a reversible sequence that protects dependent services and preserves an audit trail.
- Use HCX-to-VCF readiness record and service-mesh acceptance test to separate the symptoms of “a service mesh using an uplink profile that cannot reach the source migration network” from the configuration or dependency that caused it.
- Reconcile migration-method selection, bulk and live mobility, mobility groups with access boundaries, performance targets, failure domains, and support responsibilities.
- Exercise change-window control, application smoke tests, data consistency, rollback triggers, stakeholder communication under peak, degraded, and recovery conditions before recommending production use.
- Investigate “source resources being retired before backup and monitoring evidence is accepted on the VCF target” with a hypothesis-driven workflow that compares observed and intended behavior.
- Present post-migration acceptance pack and VCF operations handover as an operations-ready record covering residual risk, escalation, and preventive action.
SkillDynamo Training Approach
Participants create an assessment baseline, prepare HCX against the VCF target, execute pilot and production-style waves, and close each move with modernization, cleanup, and ownership checks. Delivery includes instructor demonstrations, guided exercises, scenario comparison, validation checklists, structured troubleshooting, and an evidence-backed improvement plan.
