Course Description

VMware HCX: Deploy, Configure, Manage develops practical capability for a supportable HCX mobility platform that pairs sites, extends networks, moves application waves with the appropriate migration method, and leaves clear rollback and post-migration evidence. The learning path begins with mobility strategy, hcx architecture, and deployment planning and progresses through activation, site pairing, profiles, and service mesh, keeping architecture, access, dependencies, and measurable acceptance connected.

Applied work is situated in a data-center consolidation program moving dependent application tiers between vSphere locations while maintaining addressing, service reachability, and change windows. Participants then address migration methods, network extension, and cutover waves and hcx+, monitoring, troubleshooting, lifecycle, and operations, using HCX architecture map and migration readiness register, paired-site acceptance record and service-mesh health report, migration-wave execution log and application cutover evidence, and HCX operations runbook and closed-wave support pack to compare intended design with observed behavior.

By completion, learners can implement, validate, troubleshoot, and hand over the course workflows with defensible evidence. The final operating record identifies unresolved risks, monitoring requirements, recovery actions, owners, and the next controlled improvement.

What You Will Learn

• Translate migration business drivers, HCX Manager and Cloud Manager roles, connector and cloud-side components into a workable architecture whose constraints and success measures are unambiguous.
• Prove licensing and entitlements, sizing and scale limits, DNS and NTP prerequisites, firewall and port requirements, migration-wave discovery by collecting HCX architecture map and migration readiness register rather than treating task completion as acceptance.
• Implement HCX activation, site pairing, compute profiles through a reversible sequence that protects dependent services and preserves an audit trail.
• Use paired-site acceptance record and service-mesh health report to separate the symptoms of “a service mesh completing deployment while appliance tunnels remain unreachable across the firewall” from the configuration or dependency that caused it.
• Reconcile bulk migration, live migration, cold migration with access boundaries, performance targets, failure domains, and support responsibilities.
• Exercise dependency sequencing, network extension, mobility optimized networking, cutover runbooks, application validation and rollback under peak, degraded, and recovery conditions before recommending production use.
• Investigate “an extended network remaining active after migration and creating an unexpected return path” with a hypothesis-driven workflow that compares observed and intended behavior.
• Present HCX operations runbook and closed-wave support pack as an operations-ready record covering residual risk, escalation, and preventive action.
