Course Description
VMware vSphere: Install, Configure, Manage [V8] develops hands-on understanding of Virtualization concepts, ESXi architecture, vCenter services, hardware requirements, vCenter deployment, inventory hierarchy, clusters. Learners move from requirements and dependencies to implementation, validation, troubleshooting, and supportable VMware operations.
Later lessons examine Datastores, VMFS, NFS, storage paths, Resource pools, shares, reservations. Participants use ESXi installation checklist and host baseline capture, vCenter inventory map and connectivity test matrix, storage-path validation and virtual-machine provisioning evidence, cluster resilience test and vSphere operational runbook to distinguish configuration, access, network, storage, performance, and lifecycle issues rather than treating them as one generic failure.
After the four lessons, learners can help establish a stable vSphere 8 platform with correctly installed hosts, centralized management, resilient networking and storage, protected virtual machines, and support-ready operations. They also document follow-up actions for performance, security, lifecycle, support, and adoption.
What You Will Learn
- Explain how Virtualization concepts, ESXi architecture, and vCenter services establish the technical foundation and influence later design decisions.
- Configure hardware requirements, installation media, host installation, initial configuration, and licensing, then confirm readiness through ESXi installation checklist and host baseline capture instead of relying on completion messages alone.
- Execute a controlled workflow covering vCenter deployment, inventory hierarchy, and clusters, preserving prerequisites, changes, and resulting service behavior.
- Read vCenter inventory map and connectivity test matrix to isolate a distributed port group carrying traffic on an unintended VLAN, separate symptoms from causes, and choose a correction that can be safely retested.
- Integrate Datastores, VMFS, and NFS with access, capacity, resilience, and downstream operational expectations.
- Challenge storage paths, multipathing, virtual machines, templates, content libraries, snapshots, cloning, and migrations using normal and boundary cases, then defend the outcome with storage-path validation and virtual-machine provisioning evidence.
- Investigate HA restart capacity being insufficient after a host failure by reviewing Resource pools, shares, and reservations before applying a reversible fix.
- Prepare cluster resilience test and vSphere operational runbook that demonstrates limits, vMotion, Storage vMotion, HA, DRS, monitoring, alarms, lifecycle management, backup, and troubleshooting and supports handover, monitoring, governance, and the next improvement decision.
SkillDynamo Training Approach
Training uses instructor walkthroughs, hands-on implementation, role-based exercises, boundary testing, troubleshooting drills, review checkpoints, and structured handover. Learners practise explaining why a result is acceptable rather than merely showing that a task completed.
