Lesson 4: IIoT Security, Resilience, Deployment, and Governance

Lesson Overview

This lesson develops practical skills in iiot security, resilience, deployment, and governance for the Industrial IoT Development and SCADA Data Acquisition Training course, with implementation, verification, documentation, and troubleshooting guidance.

Topics Covered

IIoT attack surface, zones and conduits, identity, authentication, authorization, and least privilege
Encryption, certificates, secure protocols, patching, monitoring, incident response, and audit
Availability, redundancy, failover, backups, disaster recovery, and degraded operating modes
Pilot rollout, environment promotion, testing, change control, rollback, and support handover
Architecture review, vendor and integration governance, compliance, and continuous improvement

Practical Activity

Create or review a practical configuration for iiot attack surface, zones and conduits, identity, authentication, authorization, and least privilege.
Build and test an exercise involving encryption, certificates, secure protocols, patching, monitoring, incident response, and audit and availability, redundancy, failover, backups, disaster recovery, and degraded operating modes.
Use diagnostics or evidence to validate architecture review, vendor and integration governance, compliance, and continuous improvement.

Key Takeaways

Explain iiot attack surface, zones and conduits, identity, authentication, authorization, and least privilege.
Apply encryption, certificates, secure protocols, patching, monitoring, incident response, and audit and availability, redundancy, failover, backups, disaster recovery, and degraded operating modes.
