Course Description
ABAP Objects – BC401 builds the working knowledge needed to design classes and interfaces, apply inheritance and polymorphism, handle events and exceptions, manage object lifecycles, and use object-oriented techniques to create maintainable ABAP applications. Rather than treating functions separately, the course shows how process, data, configuration, access, and reporting decisions influence one another.
Exercises use an SAP development team refactoring procedural custom code into reusable services with clear responsibilities, testable behavior, controlled exceptions, and extensible designs. Participants assemble ABAP class design workbook, object hierarchy and interface evidence pack, object collaboration exercise workbook, and ABAP objects assurance and refactoring plan and validate their decisions against exception conditions such as a public attribute allows callers to bypass required validation; a downcast succeeds in one scenario but fails for another valid implementation; an event handler remains registered after its consumer should be released; a refactoring passes unit tests but changes a required integration side effect.
Successful participants can model object responsibilities, implement classes and interfaces, apply inheritance appropriately, coordinate events, handle exceptions, test behavior, and document maintainable extension points.
What You Will Learn
- Describe how class responsibility design shapes dependable extensible ABAP objects execution from start to finish.
- Build object lifecycle management settings that reflect organizational rules, responsibilities, and control requirements.
- Process interface contract implementation while preserving the documents and status history needed for review.
- Reconcile inheritance hierarchy control outputs with source data, downstream postings, and expected balances.
- Diagnose polymorphic method usage variances by separating master data, configuration, authorization, and timing causes.
- Retest event handling patterns after correction and retain evidence of the restored process result.
- Evaluate class-based exception handling metrics to identify bottlenecks, control gaps, and improvement opportunities.
- Hand over object-oriented test design actions with named owners, deadlines, review triggers, and success measures.
SkillDynamo Training Approach
