Course Description
DO188 – Red Hat OpenShift Development I: Introduction to Containers with Podman develops practical capability in container development with Podman covering images, registries, Containerfiles, rootless execution, storage, networking, pods, security, systemd integration, OpenShift deployment, and troubleshooting.
Learners progress through Container Concepts, Podman CLI, Images, Registries, and Container Lifecycle; Containerfiles, Image Builds, Layers, Tags, Rootless Containers, and Security; Storage, Networking, Environment, Ports, Pods, and Multi-Container Workloads; Systemd Integration, OpenShift Deployment, Troubleshooting, and Delivery. Each stage connects Red Hat technology with implementation decisions, operational controls, troubleshooting, and reviewable evidence.
The learning journey follows a development team preparing secure container images and local workflows for deployment to OpenShift and produces a practical container image repository, Podman workflow record, security checks, and OpenShift deployment evidence for implementation and operational use.
What You Will Learn
- Configure container architecture and Podman command-line workflow with reproducible settings and validated prerequisites.
- Execute image discovery, registries, tags, and lifecycle management and interpret outputs, events, logs, and system behavior.
- Diagnose Containerfiles, layers, builds, and reproducible images through targeted checks, traces, and corrective testing.
- Validate rootless execution and container security boundaries against security, reliability, governance, and acceptance criteria.
- Compare storage, networking, environment, ports, and pods alternatives and explain operational and technical trade-offs.
- Document systemd integration for managed container services using repeatable commands, evidence, ownership, and handover notes.
- Improve local-to-OpenShift image and deployment workflow through monitoring, exception handling, automation, and review cycles.
- Map container troubleshooting, validation, and developer handover across architecture, roles, dependencies, controls, and evidence.
