Course Description
DO316 – Managing Virtual Machines with Red Hat OpenShift Virtualization develops practical capability in OpenShift Virtualization administration for virtual machine lifecycle, compute, networking, storage, templates, snapshots, migration, high availability, monitoring, and troubleshooting.
Learners progress through OpenShift Virtualization Architecture, Operator, VM Objects, and Lifecycle; Compute, Networking, Storage, Data Volumes, and Guest Configuration; Templates, Cloning, Snapshots, Live Migration, Scheduling, and High Availability; Migration Toolkit, Monitoring, Backup Considerations, Troubleshooting, and Handover. Each stage connects Red Hat technology with implementation decisions, operational controls, troubleshooting, and reviewable evidence.
The learning journey follows a virtualization team onboarding traditional virtual machines to a shared OpenShift platform and produces a practical OpenShift Virtualization operating model, VM deployment records, migration plan, and recovery checklist for implementation and operational use.
What You Will Learn
- Diagnose OpenShift Virtualization and KubeVirt architecture through targeted checks, traces, and corrective testing.
- Validate virtual machine objects, lifecycle, console, and CLI operations against security, reliability, governance, and acceptance criteria.
- Compare compute, network, storage, and guest configuration alternatives and explain operational and technical trade-offs.
- Document data volumes, templates, cloning, and snapshots using repeatable commands, evidence, ownership, and handover notes.
- Improve live migration, scheduling, and high-availability behavior through monitoring, exception handling, automation, and review cycles.
- Map Migration Toolkit assessment and execution planning across architecture, roles, dependencies, controls, and evidence.
- Configure VM monitoring, failure diagnosis, and corrective action with reproducible settings and validated prerequisites.
- Execute virtualization operations evidence and support handover and interpret outputs, events, logs, and system behavior.
