Course Description
PTR/INT Oracle Solaris 11 Internals develops practical capability in solaris kernel architecture, processes, threads, scheduling, system calls, observability foundations and virtual memory, address spaces, paging, memory allocation, NUMA awareness, memory diagnostics. The learning path connects architecture, configuration, development, or functional processing to ownership, security, data quality, controls, and measurable acceptance criteria.
The later modules address vFS and ZFS internals, I/O stack, device drivers, networking internals, interrupts, resource control and dTrace, performance analysis, mdb, crash dumps, fault diagnosis, recovery and support escalation. Learners work with process and thread diagnostic output, memory and I/O analysis, DTrace capture and performance baseline, and crash dump findings and recovery record to distinguish configuration defects from data, access, integration, performance, compliance, or operational failures.
By completing the course, participants can support a Solaris 11 system investigated from kernel behavior through performance and crash evidence to a defensible root-cause conclusion. They also create an improvement plan covering validation, exception handling, rollback, ownership, monitoring, governance, and production support.
What You Will Learn
- Explain the architecture, responsibilities, and prerequisite decisions behind Solaris kernel architecture, processes, threads.
- Configure scheduling, system calls, observability foundations and confirm readiness using process and thread diagnostic output.
- Execute Virtual memory, address spaces, paging, memory allocation through a traceable sequence with clear ownership and approval boundaries.
- Identify memory pressure or paging anomaly by inspecting memory and I/O analysis at the earliest reliable checkpoint.
- Integrate VFS and ZFS internals, I/O stack, device drivers into the wider workflow and document its upstream and downstream dependencies.
- Validate networking internals, interrupts, resource control with DTrace capture and performance baseline, including a boundary or failure case.
- Operate DTrace, performance analysis, mdb, crash dumps against defined security, reliability, recovery, and support objectives.
- Resolve kernel fault without clear root cause through evidence-led diagnosis, a reversible correction, retesting, and preventive follow-up.
SkillDynamo Training Approach
Delivery combines course-specific demonstrations, guided hands-on exercises, scenario analysis, validation checklists, structured troubleshooting, peer review, and a final improvement plan. Learners document assumptions, settings, data, outputs, exceptions, corrective actions, rollback needs, approvals, evidence, and operational responsibilities.
